Our Band Members

Sue Steiger has the distinction of being the Music Director for Bend’s Cascade Horizon Community Band since its inception in 2003. She brings musicians with a wide range of abilities to concert performance level.

Sue is a graduate of Cal State Long Beach with a Bachelor of Music Degree. She completed graduate work at Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Los Angeles, Lewis and Clark College and Portland State University. She studied flute with Anne Diener Gilles and John Barcelona.

Sue is principal flutist with the Central Oregon Symphony. She has been a member of the Cascade Winds Symphonic Band since 2012. Sue has performed with the Sunriver Music Festival, the Cascade Festival of Music and COSA’s Music in Public Places Program. She is also a founding member of the Lumina Flute Trio and the Central Oregon Flute Ensemble.

Sue is a passionate music educator, teaching for 27 years in Bend. She is a member of Oregon Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference, the Oregon Band Directors Association, and Central Oregon Music Educators Association, the Central Oregon Music Educators Association, and the New Horizon Band Association.

In 2008 she received the Rotary award For Excellence in Education. She continues to substitute in the Bend-La Pine district and teaches flute privately in her Bend studio.

Sue is a force to be reckoned with.
